Wildfire Resilience Story Map
Conifer
Fire Department
Our neighborhood is served by the Conifer Fire Department (formerly Inter-Canyon FPD) with assistance from Elk Creek FPD when needed.
Check out the CFD website: coniferfire.org for information on current fire restrictions, wildfire protection programs, volunteer opportunities and much more.
In 2017, CFD and ECFPD joined forces to create the Conifer Wildland Division to address the increasing wildfire risk in our area.

Our Community Ambassador
is
Katrina Stevens
When the Wildland Division created their Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP), they divided the fire districts into Plan Units and recruited volunteers in each unit to serve as Community Ambassadors.
See the Story Map link for more information on the CWPP.
Our Plan Unit is Sampson/Maxwell and our Community Ambassador is Katrina Stevens
The Community Ambassador Program (or CAP) provides support to neighborhoods who are organizing to reduce their wildfire risk. The Ambassadors live in the neighborhoods they represent and meet regularly with the fire districts, thus serving as links between residents and fire personnel. Working with the neighborhood Firewise Board, your ambassador can connect you with the most current wildfire resilience strategies, assistance with mitigation and home hardening projects, and so much more.
And we try to make it fun when we can! We live in the Maxwell Area of the Plan Unit, so initially we called ourselves the Maxwell Area Defensible Space Force, or MAD Space Force.
Note: The Sampson side of the Plan Unit call themselves the Sampson Wildfire Mitigation Team – or SWiM Team.

FIREWISE
USA
Our Firewise Representative
is Ruth Curran
Our community has officially been designated a Firewise USA Participant, a meaningful recognition of steps we’re taking toward strengthening our neighborhood’s wildfire resilience and protecting the place we love.
What is Firewise?
Firewise is a voluntary, community-driven effort focused on practical steps homeowners can take to reduce wildfire risk. It’s about neighbors helping neighbors, sharing information, and working together to keep our mountain community strong and prepared.
The Firewise Board created a three-year plan that focuses on improving compliance in the home ignition zones, increasing participation in the home assessment program, educating and improving compliance with home hardening standards, increasing evacuation awareness, and more.

Wildfire
Prepared
Important
Information
Wildfire Prepared promotes wildfire awareness, education, and action for residents of Elk Creek and Inter-Canyon Fire Protection Districts in the Conifer and Morrison area of Colorado. Through the Wildfire Prepared Home Assessment Program, local residents can request a professional evaluation of the external conditions of their home and the surrounding property to determine their susceptibility to wildfire and what actions residents can take to make their home more defensible.
You must have had a Wildfire Prepared home assessment in order to participate in the Free Chipping Program.

Due to the popularity of the program, there is currently a very long wait time for a home assessment, but new assessors are being trained and you’ll want to already have a spot on the list when things open up.
